Welcome
– to the web pages of the German Ranger Association!
Germany’s rangers…
…work in national natural landscapes (national parks, biosphere reserves, nature parks), but also in protected areas, biological stations, for municipalities and administrative districts. They are staff members in administrations, trusts and other institutions, or work as a freelancer.
They have a „green“ profession and advanced training as certified conservationist, or they have a pedagogical or natural scientific profile of qualification. Their professional denominations are park ranger, national park warden or just ranger, and they work predominantly in the open country.
As educators they guide through their protected area and facilitate immediate experiences of nature. As conservationists they preserve the integrity of habitats and record natural diversity.
Rangers in Germany…
…act as mediators between humans and nature
…are communicators between citizens and administration
…they keep close contact to the volunteers in nature conservation
…know their protected area very well and are able to open up homeland, nature and the environment to others in a unique way
…play a special role in environmental education, are partners of educational institutions, and promote the appreciation of nature and the idea of protection especially in children and youngsters
